Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

• Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for your child’s academic success.
• School begins promptly at 9:05 a.m.
• Any student entering the classroom after 9:15 a.m. is considered late. When arriving late, the student must be accompanied by an adult and report to the main office to obtain a late pass.
• If your child will not be attending school, please call the main office at (631) 244-2261 option #1 before 9:00 a.m. You will be asked to provide your child’s name, grade, teacher’s name, and reason for absence.
• In the event a student must leave school prior to dismissal, the responsible parent or guardian will sign the child out of the building and state the reason for the child’s early departure.
• Please note: New York State attendance laws require a written excuse each time a student is late or absent from school.

The Connetquot School District Attendance Policy identifies the following reasons for student excused absences, latenesses and early departures from school:

• Student illness
• Illness, emergency or death in the family
• Impassable roads or weather
• Religious observance
• Quarantine
• Required court appearance
• Verified doctor’s appointments or health clinic visits
• Verified college visits
• All other absences, latenesses, and early departures are considered unexcused absences.

• We encourage all students to take the district provided bus transportation to school.

• If you choose to drop your child(ren) off in the morning, please do not drop off prior to 9:00 am as supervision is not provided before school. 

• Drop-Off Line is a single file line along the curb on the north side of Sycamore.

• Cars must pull up in the line and children should exit cars on the curb side.

• Children will walk to and enter Sycamore through the cafeteria door.

• If you prefer to walk your child(ren) to the cafeteria door, you must park in a designated parking spot.

• At 9:05 am, the cafeteria door will be closed and the children will be dismissed to their classrooms.

• We encourage all students to take the district provided bus transportation from school.

• If it is necessary for a student to leave before dismissal, the student must be signed out from the main office prior to 2:50 pm.  After this time, all pick-ups must wait until 3:20 pm “Parent Pick-Up” in the cafeteria.

• Students must ride their assigned bus home. Notes to ride a bus home with a friend cannot be honored as per district policy.

• Students dismissed as “Parent Pick-Up” must be picked up at 3:20 pm in the cafeteria.

• Parent Pick-Up students must submit a note to their teacher. If someone other than parent/guardian will be picking up, the note must indicate the name of the person that will be signing out the student. 

• Cars may not be parked along the curb line and must be parked in a designated parking spot when picking-up.

• Please be prepared to show a photo ID when signing student(s) out.

• Students must ride their assigned bus home. Notes to ride a bus home with a friend cannot be honored as per district policy.

• All visitors must be buzzed into the building and provide photo identification to the main office staff.
• All visitors will be given a photo ID badge to be clearly worn at all times while in the building.
• Visitors are only permitted in the area indicated at sign in and may not visit other classrooms or locations in the building.
• All persons returning to the building after dismissal must be accompanied to their destination by a Connetquot employee.
• Please note, staff may not be readily available after school hours.

Early dismissal days occur each marking period for parent/teacher conferences.
